This traditional dessert is called "funny" because the layers seem to switch places during baking. A vanilla cake batter is poured into an unbaked pie crust, and a chocolate syrup mixture is poured over the top. As it bakes, the chocolate sauce sinks to the bottom, creating a gooey fudgy layer under the cake and inside the flaky pie crust. A 6" pie shell is used.
